I am a Research Fellow in the Hypermedia Research unit at the University of South Wales. I have completed my PhD in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Douglas Tudhope and Dr. Daniel Cunliffe in the area of natural language processing (NLP), producing semantic annotations conforming to the CIDOC CRM ontology.
I contribute to research activities and projects within the Hypermedia Research Group (University of South Wales) with expertise on Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Semantic Technologies, extracting highly structured knowledge from unstructured text information with specific expertise in the domain of humanities. I work for the FP7 European project Ariadne researching the multilingual application of NLP for the semantic indexing of archaeological resources. I lead the Welsh Natural Language Toolkit (WNLT) project that aims to develop a suite of open source software modules that enable Welsh Language computational linguistic application. In the past I worked as a member of the research consortium ReDrAW providing research support and management in the areas of digital curation and dissemination of cultural heritage and art resources.
I have a BSc(Hons) in Multimedia and MSc in E-Learning both obtained from the University of Glamorgan in 2003 and 2004 respectively. I have worked professionally in the industry as a senior web developer for the DVLA associated e-commerce enterprise VRM in Swansea and as the division leader of computer studies for the University of Huddersfield partner, North College Thessaloniki (Greece). During 2007 – 2012, I delivered Web Design and Development, Social Media and Search Engine Optimisation modules for the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science (USW), the Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries (USW) and the DEHOV project (UHOVI).
